The Minister of Water of Resources, Suleiman Adamu, and some government officials were among the world leaders seeking for solutions to global crisis as the United Nations Water Conference opens in New York.
Adamu was accompanied by Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the UN, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande and other Nigerian government officials to opening of the event.
The three-day event UN Water Conference – co-hosted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Tajikistan, which opened on Wednesday, is taking place as this vital natural resource is being depleted, polluted and mismanaged.
Nigeria is expected to deliver its statement to the gathering today.
In his remarks, UN Secretary-General António Guterres underscored that water is a human right and critical to development that will shape a better global future.
The UN chief noted that nearly three out of four natural disasters are linked to water, and a quarter of the planet lives without safely managed water services or clean drinking water.
