
The Nigerian Police Force has announced the arrests of 50 suspects, three of them believed to be among kidnappers of the 126 students kidnapped from Bethel School in Kaduna state.
Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba, while briefing newsmen in Abuja said three of the suspects were among the 25-man gang that kidnapped the 126 students.
He added that the suspects played key roles in the kidnap, and that the police had gathered enough intelligence to ensure the arrest of other members of the gang.
The Spokesman said other 47 suspects were arrested for various offences including murder, kidnapping, cattle rustling, armed robbery and car theft, while some were arrested for illegal possession of prohibited weapons and possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
Mba explained that the suspects are made up of 48 males and two females, adding that investigation by the police had clearly linked the suspects to the alleged offences. He also announced that 26 assorted firearms, made up of 13 AK47 rifles; four submachine guns, four locally-made revolver pistols and four Dane guns were recovered from the suspects.
