The Niger State Police Command has denied reports that 37 people were killed in Nakundna and Wurukuchi communities in Shiroro Local Government Area, insisting that only 13 persons lost their lives when terrorists attacked some villagers who were harvesting crops.
Spokesperson of the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Wasiu confirmed the number in a statement in Minna, the Niger state capital.
He also added that the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command Monday Bala Kuryas has condoled with the families of the victims and reassures that the police and other security agencies will not relent in the ongoing onslaught against banditry and other forms of criminalities in the state.
The Command also advised reporters to avoid rushing to publish stories without verification to avoid causing panic and public outrage.
