The Kaduna State government has renewed its pledge to bring an end to cases of Vesico Vaginal Fistula, VVF in the State.

The State Commissioner for Health, Amina Baloni made this known shortly after a Road Walk, led by the wife of Kaduna State Governor, Ummi el-Rufa’i, in Kaduna.

The Walk was meant to create awareness on the main conference to end Vesico Vaginal Fistula, VVF in the State, which will hold at Fifth Chukker Polo and Country Club, Mararraban Jos, today, Thursday.

She said that over twelve thousand women were living with VVF in the state which was of concern to the government. She also warned that child marriages could precipitate the underage wife getting infected with the disease.

Speaking in a separate interview, the state Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hafsat Baba said there is need for more sensitisation and enlightment on VVF for people to be more informed on the effects of the disease.

Also, Ummi El-Rufa’i, who led the Road Walk, said there is the need for people to stop stigmatising people with the disease and called on parents to stop forcing their daughters into early marriages.

VVF is an abnormal fistulous tract extending between the bladder and the vagina, which allows the continuous involuntary discharge of urine into the vaginal vault.
