The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar has declared today, Friday the first day of Ramadan. He said the sighting of the moon in almost every part of the country yesterday Thursday signified today the first day of Ramadan.
The Sultan also called on Muslim communities in the country to start fast today in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari sent best wishes to Muslim Ummah in the country and the world.
The President in a statement described this year’s Ramadan as a challenge, owing to the global coronavirus in over 200 countries, calling on citizens to avoid large gatherings and have their prayers, suhoor and iftar individually or with family at home.
On his part, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has called on Muslims to maintain government directives on the prevention on the spread of coronavirus, saying such was the sacrifice Nigerian must make.
Also, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in a statement urged Muslims to pray against the epidemic and called for sacrifice and increased prayers.
