President Bola Tinubu has designated President Basiru Faye of Senegal as the special mediator between ECOWAS and the nations of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger Republic.


The President whose tenure was renewed for a second term as the Chairman of the ECOWAS authority of heads of state and government said the regional body would deploy all avenues for negotiation with the three countries.


President of ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Aliyu Touraye explained that President Faye openly indicated his acceptance to serve as facilitator for ECOWAS in its engagement with Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.


ECOWAS turned to President Faye of Senegal after he was appointed by the regional bloc to mediate between the community and Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger after their withdrawal threatened regional stability.


The ECOWAS heads of state resolved to introduce a single currency by 2027, a monumental step towards regional integration and economic stability.
