Power Tussle: Gov. Buni May Return As Apc Caretaker Chair, NEC Meeting Not Recognised

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has rejected a letter inviting it to the emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC scheduled for March 17 in Abuja where Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s appointment as caretaker chairman and other vital changes in the party are planned for endorsement.

INEC explained that the letter was not signed by the ousted National Chairman and National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and John Akpanudoedehe, therefore, truncating the scheduled NEC meeting and  a threat to the National Convention slated for March 26. This indicated that Sani Bello’s leadership of APC is not known to INEC.

However sources said some worried party’s stakeholders reached out to President Muhammadu Buhari, who ordered Buni’s removal, to forgive and allow him return as caretaker Chairman, so that the March 26 National Convention date would be actualised, and save the party from collapse.

It was also gathered that Buni would be heading to London to meet with Buhari and sort out all issues about his return as Chairman.
