Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has questioned the rationale behind recalling of Saudi Arabia-based striker Odion Ighalo to the national team.

Adepoju, while speaking with reporters during the final of the 40th CBN Governor’s Cup in Ibadan, Oyo state noted that although Ighalo was a strong striker, there were younger players in the team doing well in their clubs.

On his part, former Eagles Goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu, believed that the Rohr wanted the best for the team, with the recall of Ighalo.

It would be recalled that Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr last week announced that Ighalo, who retired from the team two years ago, was in his 40-man provisional list for next month’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

In another development, Cyriel Dessers won the Derby of the Super Eagles in Holland after he came off the bench to score the lone goal match winner for Feyenoord against goalkeeper Maduka Okoye of Sparta Rotterdam. Dessers, on loan from Belgian club Genk, came off the bench in the 65th minute and then snatched the win in this Rotterdam Derby for Feyenoord in stoppage time.
