An ecologist, Richard Inyamkume, has called for National Species Recovery Plan that will assist in recovering massive loss of extinct species and other species that are already threatened within local ecological communities.
Inyamkume, who is the also Executive Director, Ambassadors of Dialogue, Climate and Reintegration, an NGO, gave the advice in Abuja.
The ecologist, who spoke following the commemoration of the 2019 World Endangered Species Day, held May 17 annually, stressed creating awareness on the need to protect endangered species from going into extinction.
Inyamkume added that citizens needed to understand that maintaining sustained national biodiversity would help boost Nigeria’s ecosystem productivity and guarantee sustainable life in all forms.
He called on the federal government and civil society organisations to take urgent actions to address massive extinction of natural species.
