The Anambra State Police Command has destroyed a kidnapping syndicate terrorising the state and arrested two suspected top members.

The Command’s Spokesman, Haruna Mohammed in a statement said the arrest followed a fierce gun battle with the criminals.

Mohammed said police also recovered one revolver pistol, four live ammunition and a victim’s body. He added that the gun battle between the police and the syndicate took place at Owerrinta, Abia State. According to the spokesman, the shootout took place when the abductors came to collect three million naira ransom from the victim’s family.

He explained that following intelligence, Puff-Adder operatives, in conjunction with the Command’s Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS trailed and arrested Anthony Robbert and Udoka Nwoko who were fatally wounded during the encounter.

The Spokesman said the encounter followed the kidnap of one Amaechi Ike at Awada in Onitsha, Anambra. He appealed to residents to always provide useful information that would assist the Police in protecting lives and property of citizens.
