The National Judicial Council, NJC, has recommended 36 lawyers in the country for appointment as judges and khadis in some state high and customary courts.
The recommendations were part of the resolutions reached at the Council’s 107th meeting, presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, in Abuja.
A breakdown of the recommendations shows Oyo State having the largest number, with eight candidates nominated for its high court as judges.
In an earlier development, the National Judicial Council, NJC, also suspended Justice G. C Aguma of the High Court of Rivers State and Justice A.O Nwabunike of the Anambra State High Court for an alleged misconduct barring the judges from performing judicial functions for the period of one year without pay while placed on watch list for two years thereafter.
A total of 5 serving Judicial Officers were sanctioned for various acts of misconduct while the Council also recommended two Heads of Court for compulsory retirement over falsification of age.
