The Maize Association of Nigeria, MAAN has initiated a maize pyramid in Kaduna State as part of its loan repayment under Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Anchor Borrower Programme, ABP for 2021 wet season farming.
MAAN National President Abubakar Bello, who made known, explaining that the maize showcased was sourced from across the country, and also is the second maize pyramid erected by maize farmers since the commencement of the programme in 2015.
He added that the pyramid was part of the success story of CBN’s Anchor Borrower Programme and to showcase maize famrers’ resilience and commitment to food security and nutrition in Nigeria.
Bello however said reasons behind the high cost of maize, is traceable to Covid-19 pandemic being a major contributory factor as companies producing inputs could not produce due to lockdown restrictions.
On his part, Kaduna State Commissioner of Agriculture Ibrahim Hussaini noted that the pyramid is symbolic and will go a long way in convincing Nigerians that CBN programme and the association are ensuring that Nigeria achieves self-sufficiency in food production.
