Following the security challenges bedevilling Nigeria, the Federal Government is deploying Agro-Rangers to improve security on farms across the country.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammad Abubakar, announced this at a news conference on flooding’s impact on food security in Abuja. He added that the deployment was part of the ongoing activities by the ministry with relevant government agencies to increase food production in the country.
Abubakar said the Government had also restocked the Strategic Food Reserve with 200,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities.
The Minister therefore listed other ongoing activities to include the construction and rehabilitation of Mini-Earth Dams and Water, Harvesting Structures to store excess rain water for dry season farming and fisheries in the front-line states.
He stated that Federal Government had distributed mobile multi-purpose grain dryers to cluster farmers, to reduce post-harvest losses in the 774 Local Government Areas across the country.
