The Federal Government has lamented about 330,000 Nigerian refugees are suffering in neighbouring countries due to security challenges in the North-East and North-West.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq announced this in a Chatham House webinar on Nigeria’s humanitarian challenges and worsening food crisis.
She added that farmers-herdsmen clashes in the Middle Belt and in the Southern region, flood, drought, as well as fires and industrial accidents, among other things, led to the high number. The Minister said 16,634 are in Chad, 118,409 in Cameroun, while Niger Republic has 186,957.
In a similar incident, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Gabriel Okafor, has aligned with Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s statement on military hardware movement in the country. He also said alarm raised by El-Rufai on the need to work hard to prevent the Afghanistan situation is indeed timely.
