Challenges: Federal Government Says Food Insecurity Now National Threat

The Federal Government expressed worries that the frequency of security threats in different parts of the country was threatening not only economic growth but also food security.

Minister of Defence Bashir Magashi, who gave the hints at the opening of the 2021 Defence Advisers/Attaches Annual conference in Abuja, stated that the threat has made it imperative for the security agencies to collaborate to curb the hazard in order to create the enabling environment for economic activities to flourish and to attract Foreign Direct Investment, FDI.

Magashi, while reiterating that Nigeria is at present faced with other dimension of threats, including increasing agitations for secession, said in the north-east, attacks by Boko Haram terrorists and ISWAP continue to pose serious security threats in Nigeria.

The Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Buba Marwa in his address, drew the attention of the Defence Advisers/Attaches to the dangerous effects of drug use on terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements, noting that there was definite linkage between use of drugs and security threats facing the nation.
