Nigerian Governors have given the Federal Government a condition to refund the six hundred and fourteen billion naira budget support intervention fund given to the thirty-five states. They maintained that there must be a reconciliation of what each state will refund before any step could be taken.
The Governors stated this at the National Economic Council, NEC meeting in Abuja, Presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
As a result of their claim, a committee was set up to work things out and report back at the next meeting.
The bail-out was giving to states by President Buhari during the recession when many of them were unable to pay workers. Apart from Lagos, all the remaining thirty-five states benefitted from the bail-out.
However, Finance, Budget and National Planning Minister, Zainab Ahmed said each state is expected to refund about seventeen point five billion naira. She added that arrangement has been concluded to forward the 2020 budget estimates to the National Assembly next month for consideration.
