The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has faulted the call for a new jet for Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Obi, in a post on X, said the lawmaker who demanded a new jet for Shettima “is insensitive and unconcerned about the prevailing economic situation in the country.
Last weekend, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, said Shettima’s life is at risk and he urgently needs a new aircraft.
Lawan’s call followed Shettima’s aborted trip to the 2024 Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting in Apia, Samoa, on October 25, 2024.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had said Shettima’s trip was cancelled due to damage to his aircraft by a “foreign object”.
Lawan, the speaker of Borno Assembly, Shettima’s home state, subsequently urged the Federal Government to purchase a new aircraft for the Vice President.
However, Obi said such a call was insensitive as “Nigerians are facing untold hardship at this moment is no secret”.
