The United Nations, UN has admitted that there are reliable accusations of over 100 extrajudicial killings in Afghanistan since the Taliban took power in August, blaming the country’s new rulers.
UN Deputy Rights Chief Nada Al-Nashif expressed displeasure over continuing reports of such killings, despite a general amnesty announced by the Taliban after their August 15 takeover.
She also told the UN Human Rights Council on Tuesday that between August and November, the group has received claims of killings of former Afghan national security forces and others associated with the former government.
Al-Nashif added that about 72 of this killings attributed to the Taliban, noting that in some cases, the bodies were publicly displayed, which has worsened fear among the population.
However Taliban Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi, while reacting to the accusations said the government is fully committed to the amnesty decree, and refuted that employees of the past administration were being persecuted.
