An Islamic group, ‘Volunteer and Patriotic Muslim Scholars’ has started a three-day fast and prayer sessions for national peace, amidst rising insecurity in the country.
This is coming just days after the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN completed a three-day fast and prayers observed by Christians across the country.
The team leader of the Volunteer and Patriotic Muslim Scholars, Salihu Abdullahi-Mai at a news conference in Tudun Wada, Kaduna, said that the group mobilised one thousand scholars for the three-day fast and prayers, adding that the exercise is aimed at calling on God to save Nigeria from terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, among others.
He explained that the prayers and fast had become necessary and has invited preachers from all the 23 local government areas of the State.
According to Abdullahi-Mai, during the
three-day exercise, there would be the daily recitation of the Holy Qur’an and
some other special prayers, which would be offered at various mosques.
