The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has charged its heads of department, voter education and publicity and public affairs officers to be strategic in communication ahead of the 2023 general elections.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, made the call at the opening of a two-day training for INEC Voter Education and Publicity Officers in South-West, in Lagos.

He explained that the training became germane, because of the assurances by the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, that the electoral umpire is poised to organise free, fair, transparent, verifiable and inclusive elections.

Okoye said that it also became important against the backdrop of the coming into force of a new electoral legal framework for the conduct of elections as well as the Commission’s commitment to infuse technology in the electoral process.

The INEC Commissioner urged the officers to know their subject and be the expert, while also ensuring proper preparations before going for a live interview.
