PRESENTATION OF CREDENTIALS AT STATE HOUSE IN LUSAKA, DECEMBER 14, 2017

The President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu says his government has asked the United States to withdraw its diplomat, Daniel Foote, after he criticised the jailing of two men for being in a gay relationship.

Foote said he was disturbed last month, when a judge sentenced the men to fifteen years in prison. He called on the government to review the case.

President Lungu added that he did not want people like Foote in the country, saying he is waiting for a answer from Washington.

In another development, the alienated wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry Mubaiwa, is expected to appear in court to face charges of money laundering and fraud today, Monday.

The corruption charges arise from an alleged attempt to forge a marriage certificate without her husband’s consent while he was sick.

The couple is normally married, after Chiwenga paid a bride price to her parents in 2011.

Marry is being held at Rhodesville police station in the capital, Harare, after being arrested on Saturday. She has not commented on the charges.
