The Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO has advised the three-tiers of government to do all within their powers to tackle poverty as it was the major cause of child labour in the country.
The group said that most children who suffered child labour were those from unplanned families or what he called `roadside’ parents.
The Chairman of the CLO in Lagos State, Ehi Omokhuale, gave the advice in an interview in Lagos today.
He spoke as the World commemorated the International Day Against Child Labour which is celebrated globally every June 12th.
The theme for 2019 is: “Children should not work in fields, but on dreams.’’
According to him, the Federal, State and Local Governments as well as Ministries should rehabilitate and cater for unfortunate children.
Omokhuale also urged government to curtail inflation by controlling prices of products so that the ordinary citizen could have a sustained purchasing power.
