The International Labour Organisation, ILO and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC have called for accelerated action to improve progress on gender equality at workplace.
The two Organisations made the call in separate statements in Abuja to mark the 2019 International Women Day. The theme of the 2019, Women Day Celebration is, “Balance for Better.”
The ILO Director General Guy Ryder said that there was need to accelerate action to improve progress on gender equality at work place. According to him, there is need to implement a transformative agenda that includes enforcement of laws and regulations.
On her party the NLC Chairperson National Women Commission Mercy Okezie, said that 818 million women globally have experienced gender inequality at workplace. She said that the theme was apt and aimed at addressing the widening gap of inequalities in the world of work.
