The National Executive Council, NEC of the striking Academic Staff of Universities, ASUU is expected to meet later today to deliberate on the next step of action after the declaration of one-month warning strike.
It was however learnt that the NEC members will meet Federal Government officials later in the week.
It would be recalled that ASUU had last week Monday declared a nationwide four-week roll-over strike after a two-day meeting at the University of Lagos, Akoka.
ASUU said it had no option but to embark on the strike, saying despite meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on October 14, 2021, on issues, including funding for revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution; promotion arrears, renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, and the inconsistencies in Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System Payment, none of its demands had been met.
ASUU National Chairman Emmanuel Osodeke also said if the government was responsive, there would be no need for the strike to last for weeks. He however advised Nigerians to appeal to the government to implement the agreement they signed with the union.
