The United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF urged traditional and religious leaders to change the negative social norms that encouraged violence against children in their communities.
Child protection specialist UNICEF, Dennis Onoise, made the call in Zaria during a sensitization workshop on ending Violence Against Children.
He said the role of traditional and religious leaders cannot be over emphasized as they hold a highly respected position in the society.
Representing Child Protection Network CPN, Obadia Diji, said civil society organizations have an important role to play in ending violence against children in communities.
He mentioned that CSOs could help in providing quality integral services which include birth registration and social welfare services.
