The Senate has called on the President Buhari-led administration to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, asking it to declare a state of emergency on unemployment in Nigeria.

The Red Chamber also asked the Federal Government to raise the budget for education, noting these are some of the measures that can reduce the spate of youth restiveness and insecurity in the country.

According to the lawmakers, the rising spate of security crises across the country was as a result of the neglect of the masses by the elite.

These were part of the resolutions reached by the lawmakers at the plenary on Wednesday when they adopted a motion moved by Chukwuka Utazi, entitled, ‘Bridging the gap between the haves and the have-nots in Nigeria to nip in the bud the seeds of a looming violent revolution.’
