The Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities has confirmed the release of 55.5 billion naira to the 38 federal universities across the country. The move is to forestall Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU industrial action.

The Money covers 30 billion naira revitalisation funds and the 22.5 billion naira for academic earned allowances, which formed part of the contentious issues between the Federal Government and the ASUU, upon threat to go on strike should nothing happens.

The Association, while confirming the release of the money said the amount was not the major issues the union is agitating for as contained in their agreements with the federal government.

Chairman of Committee of Vice-Chancellors o Age Abdulkareem who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN confirmed the release of the money.

Abdulkareem also assured that UNILORIN had gotten its own share of the money while assuming that other universities would have gotten theirs too. Ina similar vein, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has equally confirmed to have gotten its own allocation.

However, the President of ASUU Emmanuel Osodeke is yet to comment on the development.
