President Muhammadu Buhari says the telecommunications sector contributed 10 per cent to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product GDP in the first quarter of 2019.
Buhari said this at the 2019 Conference of African Telecommunications Regulators on Consumer Affairs, CATCO in Abuja.
He advised the telecommunications industry to play bigger roles in economic growth and development in Africa.

The 2019 edition of CATCO with the theme: “Empowering the Telecom Consumer in an Era of Technological Evolution” is expected to critically examine, analyse and identify the strength and weaknesses of the regulators.
It also wants to examine how telecoms regulators can empower the consumers in this era of technological evolution.
According to documents from the Nigeria Communications Commission NCC, the first edition of the conference was held in 2013.
