Strike: Railway Corporation Puts Managers On Alert, Directs Shut Down Of Stations

The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC has alerted instructed District Managers to shut down train stations in the event the workers down tools.

Managing Director of the corporation Fidet Okhiria, in an internal memo informed relevant officers of the need to protect railway assets in the event the strike goes ahead.

It would be recalled that the workers of the Corporation announced a three-day warning strike from November 18th to 20th over their welfare.

It was also gathered that the Workers’ Unions had decided that all the district organs to summon a general meeting of all the workers of their districts on Monday, 15th November 2 and notify the workers of the commencement of a 3-day warning strike.

The Managing Director however said if no treaty is reached, train service will be shut down with effect from Wednesday night.

The memo also directed the officials to move all locomotive and coaches for Abuja-Kaduna, Warri-Itakpe and Lagos-Ibadan train services to safe places.

However, the Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi in a bid to stop the strike, had invited the labour unions to a meeting on Saturday but it ended in a deadlock.
