The Northern Elders Forum, NEF has kicked against the measures taken by some state Governors in the region to curtail insecurity. The measures included closure of markets and schools ban on cattle movement, shutdown of communications network.
It would be recalled that the Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC had ordered telecommunication companies to shut down their base stations in Zamfara state following kidnapping of school children in Kaduna; Katsina and Niger states.
The group’s Director Publicity and Advocacy Hakeem Baba-Ahmad in a statement said the measures would encourage the bandits to damage more destruction, noting that the actions represent a very near economic and social lock downs on people who had been at the mercy of criminals for along time.
He also observed that unless the measure were accompany by an angry and effective assault on the act of stealing and kidnapping industry, they will merely add to misery and hopelessness of communities.
