The Federal Government has approved twenty-five million naira grant to five research institutions for their contribution to national development.
The Institutions include: the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, the Nigerian Academy of Letters, the Nigerian Academy of Education and the Nigerian Academy of Social Science.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu while speaking at the event, urged the institutes to work in synergy and apply their knowledge to solve the nation’s numerous challenges. He listed some challenges as corruption, insecurity and economy.
He described the institutes as reservoirs of knowledge, which could be of great benefit to the nation in its bid to achieve greatness.
Earlier, the President of the Nigerian Academy of
Engineering, Fola Lasisi, while speaking on behalf of the recipients, expressed
gratitude to the ministry for blazing the trail in the search for
knowledge-driven technology development in the country and assured on behalf of
the other academies to put judicious use the grants awarded to them.
