The Kaduna State Government would generate data of rape cases in the state from 2015 to date, to inform legal response to address the menace.
The state Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hafsat Baba, announced this during a virtual meeting in Kaduna, with the theme: Data for Policy and Decision-making in the Context of COVID-19. The meeting was organised by the Christian Aid, an NGO, as part of the Evidence and Collaboration for Inclusive Development, ECID programme, aimed at facilitating evidence-based policy and decision-making for inclusive development.
She explained that Governor Nasir El-Rufai had ordered that the data be generated to enable the state to make informed decisions on how to curb the menace of rape.
A Member, Risk Communication Pillar, Kaduna State COVID-19 Emergency Operation Centre, Zainab Muhammad-Idris stressed the need for data for effective programming, during emergency situations.
Also Director, Primary Healthcare, Ministry of Health Ado Zakari, noted that data is critical to addressing the peculiar health needs of vulnerable groups, during emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.
