The People’s Democratic Party, PDP; Labour Party, LP and the All Progressives Congress, APC have differed over live transmission of the proceedings by the media unit of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

It could be recalled that after hearing the arguments from all the parties last Thursday, the panel reserved a ruling on the application till today, Monday.

Meanwhile, the PDP and LP said the live telecast of the court sittings would remove any doubts about the transparency of the judiciary and promote fairness; however, the APC argued that it would not advance the course of justice.

The PDP/LP and their presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, who came second and third behind the President-elect, Bola Tinubu in the February 25 election, had asked the court to broadcast its sittings live in order to enable Nigerians have first-hand information of the processes that would guide the tribunal in determining the authentic winner of the contest.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC; the president-elect and the APC opposed the application, describing it as frivolous.
