The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN said the collapse of the National Grid was caused by a multiple tripping on its substation in Onitsha, Anambra state.
The company’s Managing Director, Mohammed Usman who made this known at a news conference in Abuja, said the national electricity grid had experienced some disturbances resulting in reduction of electricity allocation to distribution companies in the country.
Mohammed also added that the collapse may also have been triggered because one of the generators went off. He however, said that in spite of the fragile nature of the nation’s power grid, TCN had achieved some level of stability on the national grid.The Managing Director said the company had raised certain funds for investment in lines and transmissions saying that attainment of the required investments in transmission would take some time.
