The Kaduna State Police Command says its operatives have rescued three students of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria abducted on Monday along Abuja-Kaduna highway.
But families of the victims said they negotiated and paid the full ransom before they were released.
The Command’s Public Relations Officers, Yakubu Sabo who made this known in statement, said that three other persons were still being held by the kidnappers. He added that the three students alongside the abandoned vehicles at the scene of the incident were moved to the Police Station.
The statement assured that concerted efforts were being coordinated by the joint teams of Anti-Kidnapping Unit, PMF and the IRT to rescue the remaining three victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The command also appealed that all accounts of crimes be verified before publication to avoid sharing falsehood.
Sadiq Ango, a relative of one of the victims, writing on his twitter handle says the police was wrong as it took the families 48 hours of negotiations with the kidnappers to secure the release of their sisters.
