Petrol Subsidy Removal: NLC Directs Affiliates, CSOS To Mobilise Ahead Of Protests

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has ordered its members, associate unions, and civil society organisations to prepare for the planned January 27 and February 1 nationwide protests against Federal Government’s proposed fuel subsidy removal.

NLC also urged its affiliates across the country to mobilise their members for the rallies and ensure total compliance with the nationwide protests.

This was the highlight of the meeting with leaders of civil society organizations presided over by the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba at the Labour House, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

A member of the Central Working Committee, who pleaded anonymity, said the presidents and general secretaries of the affiliate unions pledged to mobilise their members for the protests.

He added that the organised labour would not allow the proposed petrol subsidy removal to stand, saying if it happens it will be very disastrous for all of us in this country.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government had in 2021 announced a plan to remove fuel subsidies by the first quarter of 2022.
