President Muhammadu Buhari Buhari on Wednesday signed Executive Order-009 titled: ‘The Open Defecation-Free Nigeria by 2025 and Other Related Matters Order. The order is to ensure the country becomes open defecation free by 2025.
At least 46 million Nigerians are said to defecate openly making Nigeria the second in the world.
The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and National Bureau of Statistics took part in a survey conducted by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF showed that only India rated worse than Nigeria in the Water Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH standard.
It also
found that only 11 of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria are free from open
defecation.
