The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu says Federal Government will soon criminalize open defecation in the country.
The Minister said that President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to sign an Executive Order which will criminalise the practice. He added that the Order would direct all government agencies, including enforcement agencies, to ban open defecation in the country.
The Minister said that the President had promulgated the campaign to make the country open defecation-free by 2025. He noted that the Order will also mandate all federal agencies to maintain adequate toilets in their buildings; and commercial buildings, to open up their toilets facilities for the public.
Adamu said the government would carry out aggressive campaigns to ensure behavioural change regarding that among Nigerians.
The Minister said the Federal Government would monitor and evaluate the progress of the campaign to ensure that Nigeria achieved open defecation free by 2025.
