Older Persons’ Rights: Coalition Calls For Passage Of Bill

The Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria has canvassed the passage of Rights of Older Persons’Bill to protect their rights in the country.

The Coalition’s Secretary General May Ikokwu who  made the call in Abuja said that the bill had been pending at the National Assembly, waiting for approval.

She explained that if passed, the bill would address the challenges of retired workers and the elderly in the country.

Ikokwu said the coalition drafted a comprehensive bill that will take care of the plight of the elderly, that addresses the issues concerning older persons not only suffering but also invisibility and blocked opportunities for the retired but not tired.”

The older persons’ rights advocate noted that the approval of the bill would give comfort to the elderly in the society.

It was reported that in other climes like U.S. and Europe, the older persons rights are well-protected and their needs provided, as backed by law.
