The Joint Military Task Force in Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe, on today said that close collaboration between security agencies and the media could go a long way toward improving security and ensuring peace in the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large.

Commander of the task force, Rear Admiral Akinjide Akinrinade said this when executive members of the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ visited the operation’s headquarters of Operation Delta Safe at Ogbogene in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

Akinrinade told the visitors that the media could play their role through balanced, investigative, and responsible reportage.

The military commander therefore, urged the media not to report activities of security agencies in the country in such a way that the people would lose confidence in their capacity to maintain law and order as well as ensure peace and security.
