The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS has inaugurated the e-registration of foreign nationals living in Sokoto State.

The exercise is in line with the directives of President Buhari that all foreign nationals living or transacting businesses in Nigeria beyond 90 days should be registered as part of the national security project.

The Comptroller General of Service Muhammad Babandede, who inaugurated the exercise in Sokoto, said it is aimed at enhancing internal security in the face of the security situation in the country.

Babandede represented by the Service’s Controller Sokoto state Command, Mohammed Nasiru expressed regret over the involvement of foreign nationals in crimes such as armed banditry, spread of extremists’ ideologies and terrorism among others. He called on employers, landlords, hoteliers and other citizens to support the programme by ensuring foreigners under their employment or residing in their houses or hotels provide prove of registration before attended to.

On his part, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state said the exercise will enhance government efforts in curbing the security threats to the country.
