The organised private sector, Ekiti, Sokoto, and other states have criticized the demand by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC for one million naira national minimum wage, noting that it is not realistic.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, had in an interview on one of the national television, said the Labour might ask for one million naira during the minimum wage negotiations with the Federal Government if the value of the naira continued to plummet.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, while reacting to the proposal, said the Government would make a reasonable decision in line with national interest and after due consideration of available resources and other factors.
The NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC had earlier fixed their minimum wage demand at 200,000 naira but Ajaero argued that the food inflation and high cost of living had made their previous demand unrealistic.
