The National Trade Union Platform on Migration has called for improved management of migration governance by the Federal Government.

The platform comprises migration focal persons from the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC affiliate unions.

The NLC focal person on Migration, James Eustace, made the call in a statement to mark the International Migration Day, in Abuja.

According to Eustace, the Federal Government must ratify and domesticate the relevant international instruments such as I.L.O Convention 143, Convention 181, along with Convention 189, which promotes fair and orderly migration.

He, however, said that one of the most important steps must be to ensure that the push factors propelling irregular migration are addressed.

The NLC focal person also listed the critical push factors to include massive unemployment, especially youth unemployment, and the complete absence of social protection floors in Nigeria.
