The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba, has assured that the Force will always defend Nigeria’s democracy at all costs.

He issued the warning during a media conference in Abuja, adding that the May 29 inauguration at the federal and state levels is sacrosanct.

The Police Chief warned that those plotting to disrupt the inauguration ceremonies would be identified and brought to justice, noting that the Police are duty and legally-bound to defend the nation’s democratic heritage and closely police the constitutional processes.

In another development, the United States has imposed visa restrictions on some Nigerians who undermined the democratic process during the 2023 general elections.

US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who made announcement, reiterated America’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and the rule of law.

The US had last year warned that it would impose visa restrictions on any individuals who undermined the democratic process in the Nigerian general elections.
