
Report says 46 people have been killed in a clash between cattle rustlers and villagers in the Marovitsika commune in the south-east of Madagascar. It was gathered that about 120 armed men carried out the raid on two villages, Ambohitsohy and Vohitsimbe.
The Country’s Human Rights Commission says it will conduct an independent probe into the attacks, adding that it will also help provide better security for local people.
Clashes between cattle rustlers and villagers happen frequently in the area.
In another development, the Libyan commander, Khalifa Haftar has taken measures that may enable him to run in a presidential election, slated for December.
Haftar says he is stepping down from his military duties to take advantage of a controversial new law. He explained that officials must resign their posts in order to stand in the elections, but guarantees that they can return to their old positions if they lose.
