Ahead of local government elections in the 23 councils of Kaduna State, on September 4, aspirant for political positions have embarked on campaigns both at the local government and at the ward levels.

Experts believe the election is between the candidates of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state.

The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, KAD-SIECOM has however, expressed its readiness for the conduct of the polls using upgraded Electronic Voting Machines, EVM, many residents have expressed worries of security challenges and poor knowledge of how to use the upgraded machines.

Umar Abdullah in Kaduna South, who said he was ready to cast his vote, expressed worries of bandits attack. He however, called on the State Government to deploy more security to all polling units across the 23 councils to give security backing to all voters.

Also, Munirat Hafsat Abdullahi, in Kajuru said majority of the people are illiterates and would not understand how to vote through electronic voting machines. She also recalled the 2018 elections in the state, where a representative of come a political party, at the polling unit has to direct a voter on how to press the machine for a candidate of her choice.
