The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has said the death toll from the Lassa fever outbreak in 2019 has increased to 93 in the country.
In its weekly situation report, NCDC stated that 1,374 suspected cases and 93 deaths were reported across 21 states, including the Federal Capital Territory as of March 3, 2019.
Between February 25 and March 3, 2019, 39 newly confirmed cases were reported from six states with eight new deaths in Edo, Ondo, and Kogi states.
The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said there had been a rise in the number of new cases this week compared to the last four weeks.
This is coming a week after Ihekweazu said there had been a decline compared to the 2018 outbreak.
The 21 states which had recorded at least one confirmed
case are Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Plateau, Taraba, FCT, Adamawa,
Gombe, Kaduna, Kwara, Benue, Rivers, Kogi, Enugu, Imo, Delta, Oyo, Kebbi and
Cross River.
