The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 23 new cases of Lassa fever that were recorded between February 18th and 24th.

The centre’s Chief Executive Officer Chikwe Ihekweazu, who made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja said that 1,279 suspected cases had been reported from 32 states and Abuja from January 1st to February 24th.

He said that 381 of the figure were confirmed positive, 15 probable and 858 negative.

According to Ihekweazu, from the onset of the 2019 outbreak, there have been 83 deaths in confirmed cases. He added that the case fatality ratio in confirmed cases is 21.8 per cent.

He said that Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Plateau, Taraba, FCT, Adamawa, Gombe, Kaduna, Kwara, Benue, Rivers, Kogi, Enugu, Imo, Delta, Oyo, Kebbi and Cross River, had recorded at least one confirmed case in 66 local government areas. He, however, noted that in reporting week 08, two new health workers were affected in Edo.
