Kogi Crisis: Assembly Impeaches Deputy Governor, Onoja To Be Sworn

With just a month to the Governorship election and after months of prolonged rift with his boss Governor Yahaya Bello, the Kogi State House of Assembly, at a closed-door session impeached the embattled Deputy Governor of the state, Simon Achuba.

Bello’s running mate in the upcoming November election, Edward Onoja, who resigned as Chief of Staff to the Governor, is expected to be sworn-in as the new Deputy Governor today.

The impeachment followed the submission earlier in the day of the report of the committee set up by the state Chief Judge (CJ), Justice Nasir Ajana, to investigate allegations of gross misconduct leveled against the former deputy governor by the House.

Achuba, in a reaction, said his impeachment was not a true reflection of the committee’s report. He noted that the decision to impeach him would crash, maintaining that it is not a true reflection of the committee’s submission.
