The Minister of Defence Bashir Magashi, has urged the Defence Attachés/Advisers to develop new strategies towards addressing the security threats bedevilling the country.
Magashi gave the charge at the opening of the Defence Advisers/Attachés 2019 Annual Conference organised by the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA in Abuja, with the theme: “Enhancing Inter Agency Collaboration in response to Current and Anticipated Threats in Nigeria’s Security Environment: The Role of the Defence Attachés System”.
He said that owing to the fact that the nation’s security challenges had taken a different dimension in recent years, there was need to evaluate and review the strategies in order to evolve a new defence system.
According to the Minister, beyond the insurgency in the North East, other contemporary security threats ranging from kidnapping, cattle rustling, farmer-herders’ clashes and banditry have continued to threaten the nation.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Sani Usman, that the theme of the conference was a clear indication of DIA’s focus within the overall government’s efforts at ensuring the security and prosperity of the country.
